Sian Colman
Sian Colman-Black Belding began her classical voice training in her early teens and ultimately was accepted to DIT Music and Drama Conservatory in Dublin, Ireland attaining a BA Honours in Music Performance and Vocal Pedagogy in 2014. Performances in 2024 will include concerts with her husband classical guitarist Tyler Belding alongside writing their first contemporary album while creating covers of some beloved ballads like can’t help falling in love by legend Elvis Presley. She will also continue the long standing concerts with other faculty members of Mastery School of Music where recitals are at Tapestry.
Since June 2016, Sian has taught voice extensively in Vancouver and Burnaby with The British Columbia Conservatory of Music, Burnaby; Fantasia Academy of Music, Mastery School of Music & Oakridge Music Studios in Vancouver. Her teaching career to date has included individual, private semi-private sibling and group lessons within all of the above and The Independent Theatre Workshop, Dublin, Ireland. She believes in empowering students to have a grounded technique - enabling them to embrace all musical genres - and encouraging them to have a varied interest and passion for music. Her students have consistently achieved distinctions in appropriate exams and her method of preparation for auditions has led many of her students to attain roles in major productions.
Her European performances to date include works in multiple genres; working in productions with the DIT Music & Drama Conservatory in Ireland on such renowned classics as - Cinderella (Cendrillon, Massenet), Orpheus in the Underworld (Orphée aux enfers, Offenbach) and The Merry Widow (Die lustige Witwe, Léhar). Her work in Musical Theatre/ Operetta span works by composers such as Gilbert and Sullivan (H.M.S Pinafore), Rodgers and Hammerstein (South Pacific) andFrank Loesser (Guys and Dolls). Alongside these she regularly appeared in sacred settings - both solo and choral - which have included The Messiah (Handel), Carmina Burana (Orff), St John Passion and St Matthew Passion (Bach).
Sian has been involved in numerous opera projects working behind the scenes which have included working with Lyric Opera Productions, Dublin, Ireland, under Vivian Coates (Artistic Director). She worked as part of his Creative/Stage Management Team on La Bohème and Tosca (Giacomo Puccini), The Merry Widow (Gilbert & Sullivan) and The Turn of the Screw (Benjamin Britten). Paralleling this she has worked in musical theatre on various productions such as Oliver and The Snowman. In 2015 she worked extensively on a newly commissioned piece - The Abominable Snowman - composed by Brian Irvine and lyricist John McIlduff.
