The Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) celebrates leaders in music education who demonstrate outstanding dedication, innovation, and mentorship. These exceptional educators, known as RCM Teachers of Distinction, play a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of musicians. In 2023, Fred Safaei was honored as an RCM Teacher of Distinction for British Columbia and the Yukon. Fred's journey in music began at the age of 8, inspired by his uncle's passion for the tar. He earned a Bachelor’s in Music from the Tehran University of Art, with over 22 years of musical training in Iran. After moving to Canada and leading the education department at Ava Music & Art Center, Fred has continued to provide exceptional education to all his students. His mentorship has helped musicians thrive both professionally—excelling in festivals, exams, and even launching their own music—and personally, fostering inspiration and passion. With more than 40 years of teaching experience and over 35 years as a piano technician, Fred is recognized by the RCM as an Advanced Specialist in Piano and Theory. In 2016, the North Vancouver Chamber of Commerce named him Businessperson of the Year. Fred’s unwavering commitment has positively impacted countless musicians, solidifying his legacy as a true leader in music education.
